I was born and raised on the Northside of Jacksonville, Florida, in a household where both of my parents worked hard to make ends meet—and they did so with unwavering
determination and quiet resilience. While we faced struggles at times, there were also moments of peace when we felt we lacked nothing. Like many families, we lived in the
tension between unity and challenge— together and alone, whole and hurting.
My mother and father each brought with them the roots of their own upbringings—deep, complex, and layered. These roots, both rich and rugged, shaped the soil of our home.
They did the best they could, parenting from the foundation of what they had lived, what they had lost, and what they longed for. Sometimes their methods provided safety.
Other times, they exposed the weight of generational cycles.
In many ways, their roots became mine. And as I began raising my own son, I recognized the familiar soil beneath his feet—the same patterns pushing through,
uninvited yet undeniable. It begs the question:
When does the cycle end—and who dares to break it?
This book is not just words on paper. It is my heart
laid bare—a transparent reflection of the human
experience. Shurshim—the Hebrew word for roots,
is a sacred excavation of my upbringing, an
unfiltered exploration of inherited struggles, spiritual warfare, and God’s relentless pursuit of
purpose. It is a testimony of what happens when we dare to dig deeper.
Before I ever knew who I was, the enemy did. He saw the presence of God on my life before I
had the language to name it. From childhood into my teenage years, God was speaking—
guiding me, calling me—but my spiritual immaturity often muffled His voice. For eleven years,
I wandered in darkness, spiritually bound like Peter in Acts 12—chained and captive. Yet in
that prison, someone was praying. And even in rebellion, God was revealing.
I saw visions. I dreamt dreams. I witnessed writing on the walls—images of my sons
before they were born, glimpses of a future I didn’t yet believe I deserved. I laughed
through moments that should have broken me, unaware of the cost. In 2019, I made a
vow to live life my way. But by the end of 2020, God interrupted my plan. He rescued me,
renewed me, and renamed me. What once defined me no longer holds me. I am a new
creation—reborn by grace.
God, in His divine wisdom, allowed the tares to grow with the wheat.
And from that divine tension, He brought forth a harvest: my testimony.
This is Shurshim.
A journey from bondage to breakthrough.
From silence to revelation.
From identity lost to purpose restored.
If you’ve ever wrestled with your roots... this is for you.
If you’ve ever questioned who you are beneath what you’ve been through... this is for you.
If you’re ready to break cycles, confront truth, and rise into freedom—
This is your invitation.
